The Windsor Essex Community Housing Corporation (WECHC) is the largest social housing provider in Windsor and Essex County, and the fifth largest in Ontario. As an independent local housing corporation with a dedicated Board of Directors, WECHC serves approximately 12,000 residents, offering over 4,900 homes to seniors, families, and singles in need of affordable housing. 

WECHC operates four distinct housing portfolios across Windsor and Essex County, including a limited number of market rent opportunities for qualifying individuals. Additionally, WECHC manages the Centralized Housing Registry (CHR) – Windsor Essex County Waitlist on behalf of the Service Manager, ensuring equitable access to affordable housing in the region. 

WECHC Housing Portfolio

WECHC owns and manages a total of 4,937 units, spread across Windsor and Essex County. These properties include a variety of housing types, such as high-rise apartments, low-rise apartment buildings, townhomes, row housing, and detached homes. Our housing offerings include: 

  • Public Housing: 3,532 units of Rent-Geared-to-Income (RGI) housing, which represent former federal/provincial public housing units. 
  • Non-Profit Families: 573 units of RGI and affordable market rent units, representing former provincial non-profit housing units. 
  • Non-Profit Seniors: 597 units, representing former federal non-profit housing units dedicated to seniors. 
  • Affordable Housing: 235 newly developed or acquired affordable housing units. 

In total, WECHC manages approximately: 

  • 3,921 RGI Units 
  • 947 Affordable Market Units 
  • 69 Market Units 

These units are distributed across 743 buildings, serving a diverse range of residents in both urban and rural settings throughout the region. Through its comprehensive housing programs, WECHC continues to provide safe, affordable, and sustainable living options, helping to foster vibrant communities in Windsor and Essex County.
